• By 1990, Ian Gillan had been the lead singer for Episode Six, Deep Purple, the Ian Gillan Band, Gillan, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple again.

  • “Naked Thunder”, recorded in Olympic Studios and other UK studios in 1990, was the effectively the first to be issued simply under his own name. Co-writtten by guitarist Steve Morris, the album also features drumming legend Simon Phillips.

  • “Toolbox”was recorded in 1991 in Battery Studios in Willesden, with production by Grammy-nominated Chris Tsangarides, best-known for his work with Judas Priest, Anvil, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, Helloween, and Yngwie Malmsteen. “Toolbox” is regarded as Ian’s hardest album, and is his first not to feature a keyboard player.

  • “Cherkazoo” is a musical that Gillan started with Roger Glover and worked on, on and off, throughout the early 70’s, a charming and quirky collection of songs that looks back to the baroque, psychedelic British pop of the late 1960’s. Its very existence was once the Holy Grail of Purple/Gillan fans the world over.

  • The booklet contains annotation by acknowledged Gillan expert David K. Tedds, who conducted a new interview with Ian Gillan for this re-issue.
