ABOUT THE DVD

Whichever way you slice it, the sometimes fruit-shaped nature of his relationship with The Man In Black (topped off by the legendary ‘spaghetti incident’!) has been a defining factor in the history of Purple, and I guess in Ian’s story per se.Had he joined Ritchie B. in Rainbow, as he was invited to do, then another intriguing twist would have been added to this already labyrinthine tale, but in the event he decided against that path, sticking with his own band instead, and there’s absolutely no question that in doing it His Way he’s endeared himself to a great many. From Tim Rice to Ronnie James Dio, and from Pavarotti to the late, great Georgie Best (all interviewed here), there’s a veritable Who’s Who of friends prepared to defend his honour should it ever be called into question… and I bet Ronnie James Dio can wield a mean broadsword when riled!
