29 Pearl of wisdom

from an old Dorset fisherman, as....

I remarked on the kindness of the townsfolk, giving baskets of food, money, hospitality and general good will to the Russian sailors. Their wooden ship, the 'St Nicholas' had sought refuge in our harbour when they met a heavy blow off the bay...

"Ar", he said," 'tis not 'em as comes in from the sea youm 'as to worry about. 'Tis 'em as comes over the 'ills."

n.b. - a bit obscure this one. It's a reference to the treachery and subsequent mistrust engendered during the English civil war. Long memories in these parts.
